Meal Plans
Where can I use my meal plan?
The Any 12, 15, All 21 and the Flex Plan can be used at all UD Dining facilities,
the Emporium, the Galley, Stuart's Landing, and the Chill. Meal plans cannot be
used at Rudy’s, The Blend, The Blend Express or the Art Street Café since these
are separate student managed businesses unrelated to UD Dining Services.
Can I change my Meal Plan ?
Customers may change his/her meal plan selection within the first two weeks of the
term. Call (937) 229-2441 or stop by the Dining Services office located in Room
201, Powerhouse.
If I don’t use my meal plan, where does the money go?
All meal plan funds are used to cover the cost to operate all Dining Service facilities.
After these obligations are met, any leftover funds are applied to our capital improvement
account. UD Dining Services does not receive tuition revenues or any kind of separate
fees to cover the costs to operate our facilities or renovate dining halls.
Why are 1st year students required to have a meal plan?
All students living in our traditional residence halls regardless of class status
are required to have a meal plan. Our traditional residence halls, which house over
2,500 students, do not have fully equipped kitchens for individual use on a daily
basis.
Does the meal plan cover Orientation?
For first year students arriving for Orientation, meals will be provided.
How do I access my meal plan?
When you receive your UD identification card called the Campus OneCard, your meal
plan account will be ready to go. All of our registers in Dining Services are programmed
with your specific account information so you will always know how many meals you
have left on a weekly basis or what your account balance is if you select the Flex
Plan. During the term, a new slate of meals is posted to your account every Monday
morning.
What is the most popular meal plan?
For the 2007 Winter Term, the most popular meal plan was our debit plan; now called
the Flex Plan. 2,466 of our 2,782 meal plan customers selected this plan.
What makes the Flex Plan more popular than the traditional
Any 12, 15 or All 21 plans?
Today’s lifestyles, class schedules and part time jobs influence when our student
customers have free time to eat meals. Our traditional meal plans are programmed
for usage around a 17-hour clock in which breakfast is scheduled from 7am to 10:55
am; lunch from 11:00 am to 4:55 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm to 12:00 midnight.
The Flex Plan does not operate on any kind of clock.
Flex Plan accounts are programmed for usage anytime from 7:00 am to 12:00 midnight.
Flex Plans function just like a bank debit card.
Another popular feature of the Flex Plan is spending flexibility.
The traditional meal plans have spending allowances for breakfast, lunch and dinner
when used in our retail dining facilities.
Traditional meal plan customers have to keep track of these spending levels for
every meal and when he/she exceeds the level, additional funds are needed to cover
the overage.
Flex Plan customers don’t need to keep track of spending levels. Purchases are simply
deducted from the debit account balance.
<What is the disadvantage of the Flex Plan?
The Flex Plan costs $1,665 per semester but only $1095 is deposited into the student
customer’s debit account. For some of our student customers, this amount is too
small as it translates into approximately $68 per week for food. Some of our customers
use the entire balance before the terms ends.
If the Flex Plan costs $1,665 per semester and only $1095
is available for spending, what happens to the $570 balance?
The $570 of the $1,665 total is applied to the costs to operate UD Dining Services.
This separation of funds takes place before the term starts. Like the Flex Plan,
the traditional meal plans also cover the costs to operate UD Dining Services however
the separation of funds takes place on a weekly basis when meals are skipped and
spending allowances are not spent. It is a national trend that traditional meal
plan customers do not consume every meal.
Flex Plans are relatively new in the college setting. At UD, we strive to keep the
operating costs and requirements to a minimal level. We continually compare our
$570 requirement to other colleges who offer this type of meal plan option. At a
nearby university, the cost of their plan is $2,270 and the operating fee is $1,370.
Can a friend use my Meal Plan ?
The ANY 12, ANY 15 or ALL 21 Meal Plan may only be used by you. You may use your
Flyer Express
account to purchase a meal for anyone you wish. Students using The Neighborhood
Plan or Flex Plan may purchase a meal for a friend.
When is the Neighborhood plan available ?
The Neighborhood Plan is available from the first session of summer school through
the end of winter semester the following year.
You can add to your plan by stopping by the Dining Services office (RM 201 in the
Powerhouse), or by filling out the online
FORM!
Are Neighborhood dollars refundable ?
Neighborhood dollars are not refundable. Any money remaining in the account at the
end of the winter semester will not rollover or be refunded.
What is the Emporium and what is The Galley?
The Emporium is a grocery
/ convenience store with a full service deli. With its location in our new residence
hall called Marianist Hall, it is centrally accessible to all meal plan customers.
The product line is only food as health and beauty items are appropriately not part
of a meal plan. Meal plan customers have this as an outlet to use their meal plan
if she/he chooses to purchase national brand grocery items for meals and snacks.
The Emporium is a source of “care packages” for those who don’t want to bring it
from home.
The Galley is a fun gathering
place within the Hangar of Kennedy Union. The Galley features Homemade® Brand ice
creams and our campus favorite, Twisted Cue pretzels. The Galley also features gourmet
coffees offered at the Blend and the Blend Express.
